New Friends

I recently was in Nashville pursuing my dream of writing by attending a workshop called Shaking your Tree given by Patsy and Danya Clairmont. I had the good fortune to meet someone I hope becomes a dear friend. Her name is Cheryl and she is a writer too. Cheryl responded to the call from Danya to offer me a ride from the hotel to and from Patsy’s house for the two sessions that we attended together. Cheryl answered the call and a new friendship is born. That is how it is. Our lives are interconnected. You will meet so many people in your life. Some will be with you always and some for just a moment. Be kind and loving. Be generous in offering yourself just in case this friend will be the one to walk with you on the rest if your journey. To Cheryl, Patsy, Les, Danya, Karen, and the other women who attended the Shaking Your Tree workshop. Welcome. Join me in my journey. Dear Heavenly Father, help us each to have a welcoming spirit. Thank you for each of these people I met in the workshop you fashioned just for me. Thank you for Patsy and for Danya for their sharing of their gifts to help us share ours. Help each of us to see the new friends that you put in our paths and protect each of us from harm. I pray for all of our intentions through Jesus Christ our Heavenly Lord. Amen.

Mary, Our Spiritual Mom

Last summer, my husband and I had the opportunity to attend a book study on Father Michael Gaitley’s book, Thirty-three Days to Morning Glory. In his book, father Michael shares his devotion to Mary and how Mary brings us into the glorious presence of her son Jesus. St Louis D’Montfort, Blessed Mother Theresa, Blessed Pope John Paul, and St Maxmillian Kolbe
all shared a common devotion to Mary. This was a very prayerful study that led me to consecrate myself to Mary and her desire to bring all God’s children to her loving Son. Mary, please use my prayers, my actions, and my life to bring people to your Son. Oh gracious Mother of Mercy, hear all our prayers and take them to your glorious Son. Amen.

Mymom

Goal setting

Did you know that you are a treasure? There is no one else with your gifts, your talents, your DNA. Your life will have many options along the way. You may work very hard to achieve a goal. If you achieve your goal, good for you! Maybe you wanted to run a race or pass a class or get a certain job. You planned it, you did the preparation, you did the work. The finish line is just ahead. You achieve the goal and it feels good. But there is a hollow feel to it. You want more. That is because you didn’t begin with prayer, listen in your heart to God’s response first and then plan your path to your goal. And there is more. When you achieve your goal, Thank God. Really, really Thank God. Oh Heavenly Father, please speak to me your words of truth as I plan my goals and as I achieve each goal, let me run to you with thanks and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mymom

Advice from mymom

I thought of the name “advice from someone else’s mom” a few years ago but settled on the name “advice from mymom”.  I learned so much from my mother, my mother in law, my grandmother, my husband’s grandmothers, my friends that I’d like to share with you.  They each tried to share their wisdom with me.  Sometimes I listened but more often, I didn’t listen at the time. But whether I ran into difficulty or triumph, I reflected back on the events and recalled their wisdom.  I feel like who I am comes from each of them.  Most especially my mom.  The other reason for the name Mymom also comes from one of my children.  He noticed that he is one of four children and started calling me Mymom whenever he wanted my attention.  It became his name for me and I rather like it.  So in honor of my mom and in recognition of my son’s nickname for me, I’ll be Mymom in this blog.

I want to write these blogs for my children.  I have so much to tell them.  So much that I have learned from all those wise people that have been part of my life.  I could help my children avoid the mistakes that I have made.  But of course in life, we are all experiential learners and none of us seem to want advice from our own moms when they can see so clearly that we are in need of advice.  It is ok.  I forgive my children as my mom forgave me.  We moms always do.  I’ll write to you instead.  You can choose to hear advice from Mymom.  God bless you and all your intentions this day.

Love, Mymom
